The UKRI CDT in AI-enabled Healthcare Systems accepts applications from:
  • Those who wish to receive a funded scholarship.
  • Those who already have a funded scholarship from another source.

Below you will find further information about funding, eligibility and general entry requirements.

General Entry Requirements

  • You must have achieved (or are predicted to achieve) a first-class or upper second class honours undergraduate degree,Ìýor aÌýMasters degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent international qualifications or experience).Ìý
  • Our preferred subject areas are Physical Sciences (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics) or Clinical / Biomedical Science.
  • Applicants with a clinical background or degree in Biomedical Science must be able to demonstrate strong computational skills.
  • You must be able to demonstrate an interest in creating, developing or evaluating AI-enabled Healthcare systems.
  • You must fulfil the ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº English language requirements. If your first language is not English then you will be required to provide evidence of proficiency in English. Further details can be found on the following ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº web page. The English language level for this programme is:ÌýLevel 2.

What Funding is Available?Ìý

Studentship Funding
What’s included? 4 years of the MRes/PhD funding including:

  • ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº academic fees (UK Home fees).
  • A tax-free stipend ofÌý£20,622 (2023 UKRI rate).
  • Access to a Research Training Support Grant to cover expenses for research trips/conferences or workshops.

Who can apply?
When applying for the CDT programme, you will automatically be considered for UKRI funding.ÌýAll UKRI-funded doctoral students will be eligible for the full award – both the stipend to support living costs, and fees at the UK research organisation rate.ÌýHowever, UKRI international studentships are limited to 3 so places will be competitive.Ìý

Home students
Home students will be eligible for a full UKRI award, including fees and stipend, if they satisfyÌý, including residency requirements.

International applicants
International studentsÌýare eligible for funding that would cover UK-HomeÌýtuition feesÌýand a stipend to support living costs,Ìýhowever, our funding does not cover international fees. International students who are not eligible forÌýUK home tuition fee ratesÌýmay be eligible for a ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº scholarship. International Scholars Award for Doctoral TrainingÌýÌý(ISAD) are awarded by ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº following a successful application to the CDT. Students interested in the ISADÌýshould indicate this on their application.Ìý

Please note that ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº does not offer part-time study for Student visa students.

EU students
ÌýStudents living within the EU who do not meet eligibility requirements for Home Fee status will need to submit applications as international students.

¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Research Excellance Scholarships 2024
ApplicantsÌýinterested in applying for theÌýÌýResearch Excellence ScholarshipsÌýmust apply via ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Select by 4ÌýJanuary. Unlike UKRI funded students, they must include a research project lay summary and a prospective ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº supervisor reference. Applicants will need to find their own ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº supervisor using the to support their application.ÌýFinally, ensure you include in your application on ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº select that you are applying for one of these scholarships. Note: please ensure you submit all the required documents that are outlined on the scholarship websites.

Self-funded studentsÌý
We are no longer accepting applications from self-funded students. If you are not eligible for UKRI funding we recommend you instead consider applying for theÌýHealth Informatics MPhil/PhDÌýprogramme. However, we do welcome applications from students (Home/EU/International) who are in receipt of alternative scholarships.

Industry-funded Studentships
Students who wish to be considered for industrially sponsored projects should indicate their interest in their application. Industry-funded CDT projects will be advertised on our projects page when available. Industry-funded projects are more likely to be open to EU applicants who do not meet the above residency requirements.

How to Apply
The application process involves three steps:

  1. ÌýA formal application to ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº via ¹û¶³Ó°Ôº Select.
  2. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a formal interview.
  3. Offers will then be made to successful applicants.

Deadline: 24 February 2024
Applicants are advised to apply early, priority will be given to those who have applied in round one.

We aim to shortlist within 2-3 weeks after the application deadline.

Notes on Applying:

  • When applying for the 4-year CDT programme, choose 'TMRAIHSING01 MRes Artificial Intelligence enabled healthcare'.
  • If you are applying for a funded studentship please leave the 'Research Proposal' section on the application form blank.
  • International applicants applying for a Research Excellence ScholarshipÌý(not UKRI funding)Ìýwill need to include a research proposal (and supervisor information if applicable).
