Below you will find further information about funding, eligibility and general entry requirements.
- You must have achieved (or are predicted to achieve) a first-class or upper second class honours undergraduate degree,听or a听Masters degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent international qualifications or experience).听
- Our preferred subject areas are Physical Sciences (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics) or Clinical / Biomedical Science.
- Applicants with a clinical background or degree in Biomedical Science must be able to demonstrate strong computational skills.
- You must be able to demonstrate an interest in creating, developing or evaluating AI-enabled Healthcare systems.
- You must fulfil the 果冻影院 English language requirements. If your first language is not English then you will be required to provide evidence of proficiency in English. Further details can be found on the following 果冻影院 web page. The English language level for this programme is:听Level 2.
Studentship Funding
What鈥檚 included? 4 years of the MRes/PhD funding including:
- 果冻影院 academic fees (UK Home fees).
- A tax-free stipend of听拢20,622 (2023 UKRI rate).
- Access to a Research Training Support Grant to cover expenses for research trips/conferences or workshops.
Who can apply?
When applying for the CDT programme, you will automatically be considered for UKRI funding.听All UKRI-funded doctoral students will be eligible for the full award 鈥� both the stipend to support living costs, and fees at the UK research organisation rate.听However, UKRI international studentships are limited to 3 so places will be competitive.听
Home students
Home students will be eligible for a full UKRI award, including fees and stipend, if they satisfy听, including residency requirements.
International applicants
International students听are eligible for funding that would cover UK-Home听tuition fees听and a stipend to support living costs,听however, our funding does not cover international fees. International students who are not eligible for听UK home tuition fee rates听may be eligible for a 果冻影院 scholarship. International Scholars Award for Doctoral Training听听(ISAD) are awarded by 果冻影院 following a successful application to the CDT. Students interested in the ISAD听should indicate this on their application.听
Please note that 果冻影院 does not offer part-time study for Student visa students.
EU students
听Students living within the EU who do not meet eligibility requirements for Home Fee status will need to submit applications as international students.
果冻影院 Research Excellance Scholarships 2024
Applicants听interested in applying for the听听Research Excellence Scholarships听must apply via 果冻影院 Select by 4听January. Unlike UKRI funded students, they must include a research project lay summary and a prospective 果冻影院 supervisor reference. Applicants will need to find their own 果冻影院 supervisor using the to support their application.听Finally, ensure you include in your application on 果冻影院 select that you are applying for one of these scholarships. Note: please ensure you submit all the required documents that are outlined on the scholarship websites.
Self-funded students听
We are no longer accepting applications from self-funded students. If you are not eligible for UKRI funding we recommend you instead consider applying for the听Health Informatics MPhil/PhD听programme. However, we do welcome applications from students鈥�(Home/EU/International)鈥痺ho are in receipt of alternative scholarships.
Industry-funded Studentships
Students who wish to be considered for industrially sponsored projects should indicate their interest in their application. Industry-funded CDT projects will be advertised on our projects page when available. Industry-funded projects are more likely to be open to EU applicants who do not meet the above residency requirements.

How to Apply
The application process involves three steps:
- 听A formal application to 果冻影院 via 果冻影院 Select.
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a formal interview.
- Offers will then be made to successful applicants.
Application Deadline
Deadline: 24 February 2024
Applicants are advised to apply early, priority will be given to those who have applied in round one.
We aim to shortlist within 2-3 weeks after the application deadline.
Notes on Applying:
- When applying for the 4-year CDT programme, choose 'TMRAIHSING01 MRes Artificial Intelligence enabled healthcare'.
- If you are applying for a funded studentship please leave the 'Research Proposal' section on the application form blank.
- International applicants applying for a Research Excellence Scholarship听(not UKRI funding)听will need to include a research proposal (and supervisor information if applicable).
Personal Statement Guidance
- Indicate the reasons why you have chosen to apply for the CDT.
- Outline your interest听in creating, developing or evaluating AI-enabled Healthcare systems.
- Would the program cover the fee difference for international students? Are there other funding options for international students?
International students听are eligible for funding that would cover UK-Home听tuition fees听and a stipend to support living costs,听however, our funding does not cover international fees. International students who are not eligible for听UK home tuition fee rates听may be eligible for a 果冻影院 scholarship. International Scholars Award for Doctoral Training听听(ISAD) are awarded by 果冻影院 following a successful application to the CDT.
